Here are some questions we get asked regularly – have a read through then please do get in touch if you have any further questions, thank you.

PIANO

What days are Piano lessons on?

By far our most popular instrument, we currently run Piano lessons Monday-Thursdays with varying hours between 9am – 7.30pm and on Saturdays between 9.30am-2.30pm.

We have limited availability for Piano so please join our wait list & you will be notified when the next spot becomes available.

WAITLIST

I’m on the wait list - When will I be offered a lesson time?

Lesson time slots sometimes become available during term time if a current student changes time or finishes. Once there is a spot available you will be notified by email & offered a trial lesson.  We offer out times to those on the wait list in enquiry order as soon as they become available, Lesson spots are offered on a first come first served basis. If you have been offered a spot & we don’t hear back from you (ordinarily within 2 days) we offer it to the next person on the wait list.

How long will I be on the waitlist?

As we are a small school & have dedicated students here for the longer term, we cannot predict when a spot will open up, however, as we are able to hire more teachers this will allow for more availability so we hope not to keep you waiting for more than a couple school terms before you are offered a spot.

MISSED LESSONS

What happens if I miss a lesson?

We require 24 hours notice for an absence. We endeavour to provide you with a make up lesson if sufficient notice is given. Ordinarily we notify you of a time in a spot where we have another student absent.  Make up lessons are subject to teacher availability, it is not guaranteed that a teacher will run a make up lesson for a student absence.  You are very welcome to offer your missed lesson to a family member or friend in your allotted time with prior notification to your teacher.  There are no refunds for non-attendance of booked lessons.

What happens if a teacher misses our lesson?

While rare, if a teacher misses a lesson due to illness you will be offered a make up lesson at another mutually suitable day/time. If you cannot attend the time offered please contact admin@christchurchmusicschool.co.uk

TRIAL LESSONS

How do I book in for a trial lesson?

Send us an email to admin@christchurchmusicschool.co.uk providing your name, age, Instrument, approximate playing level & your preferred lesson day/time and we aim to find you a spot that works for you!

Why do you charge for a trial lesson?

As a smaller organisation we are not yet able to offer free trial lessons (we’d love to in the future) we charge £10, a smaller amount for a trial lesson than an enrolled lesson to ensure that a teacher is paid for their time.

For further info about the trial lesson please see: https://www.christchurchmusicschool.co.uk/trial-lesson

LESSONS

How often will I have a lesson?

Once you have had your trial lesson & have decided to continue with lessons, lessons are weekly and run in the school terms – 38 weeks per year.  Sometimes teacher’s offer ad-hoc or group lessons & workshops in the school holidays too!

Why do Music Lessons cost so much?

Our lesson prices are lower than some private music studios & best reflect the current rate of lessons in our local area based on many factors including our teachers’ experience levels.

We are happy to provide information to any family on where you can receive funding for your child’s music lessons, cost should never be a barrier to a child learning a musical instrument.

Please see this article which eloquently details why Music lessons cost what they do:

TEACHERS

Will I have always have the same teacher?

We understand how important consistency and the relationship between student and teacher is.  We endeavour to keep our students with the same teacher for the whole of their learning journey. However sometimes, like in all lines of work, a teacher may move on in which case we notify you in advance of a teacher change and you will be either offered another wonderful teacher, or where this isn’t possible, you will be put at the top of the wait list for another spot as soon as it becomes available.

UNENROLMENT

If I want to finish up my lessons, what do I do?

We’d love to hear from you if you’re thinking about finishing up lessons and are happy to look at other options for you, you are so welcome to try lessons with another teacher or another instrument.

If you do decide you would like to finish up, please give no less than 2 weeks notice in writing to email admin@christchurchmusicschool.co.uk

Telling your teacher is not enough to unenroll as sometimes this information doesn’t get passed on in time for us to cancel your enrolment/payment, thank you.
